Wedding DJ in San Diego

Searching for a unique DJ for your wedding?

You’ve come to the right place. Read on…

But first let’s take a quick pause – try to think of the most fun wedding you attended in the past.

What do you remember from that day?

It’s likely that at the forefront of those memories is the time you spent on the dance floor having a blast with your fiends.

The music and the DJ is arguably the most important part of the wedding reception.

DJ Misha wants to make your wedding an amazing dance party. His services are different than 99% of other wedding DJ’s out there. You’re going to hire a top rated, professional San Diego DJ who can make your wedding special with a focus on music that resonates with you.

Not your typical wedding DJ

Are you’re looking for a traditional wedding DJ?

You know the type.

They’ll play songs like the chicken dance and the hokey pokey.

They’ll take requests that will clear the dance floor and kill the mood.

You may have to create a “do not play” song list for them.

You could browse a 150,000 song library and pick out a playlist for them to follow.

If that sounds like your vision – stop reading now.  There’s plenty of DJ’s that offer that service, but DJ Misha is not one of them.

Are you still here, still with me?  Great, let’s get this party going.

An approach that stands out above the rest

Throughout DJ Misha’s career he has focused primarily on the music – collecting and curating songs that drive dance floor energy and tap into his audiences emotions.

Misha’s passion for music, the technical and aesthetic art of DJ’ing is what makes him unique and stand out above the rest.

At the core of DJ’ing are essentially just two simple things.

First, the DJ must be a curator and collector of good music.

Second, the DJ must present that music to an audience in a set, that as a whole is much more than each individual song.

The art and science of being a DJ and playing records

Just for a moment let’s consider this analogy.  You want to hire a world class top chef to cook an amazing meal for your dinner party.

You might tell the chef what kind of meal you’d like to eat and then give him the autonomy to create something great.

Most likely you would not hand them every ingredient and give them your recipe to follow.

That would defeat the purpose of having a professional create something special for you – right?

Now let’s apply that to DJ’ing.

In this case the ingredients are the songs, and the recipe is the order and the style in which those songs are played and presented to the audience.  Can you see where we are headed here?

So the point is – you’re about to hire a professional to entertain you and your guests during the most special day of your entire life.

To be sure, you want them to create something special and memorable just for you.

The idea, then, is to trust the expertise and allow them to practice their art to deliver an amazing experience on your special day.

Dance floor full all night

Now let’s take a short break and look at a few testimonials from past customers of DJ Misha.

– Jennifer

“Played an amazing 4 hour set without any direction needed from us. Had all the people dancing.”

– Matt

“The set was dope AF as he played with a saxophonist and it 100% made the evening a success.”

– Heather

“Great DJ, professional, courteous, and rocks the house! Everybody loved him.”

– Chad

“I can attest to the awesome party brought by DJ Misha. He sets the mood and makes you want to dance.”

– Joanna

Okay – that was fun and informative.  Now, let’s get back to building up this party.

It’s all about the music

Music is powerful. It has the power to bring up complex emotions. It could make you feel happy – or it could make you feel sad. Everyone single person has their own personal soundtrack and tastes. Some tastes are refined and other are not. But for sure – no one likes country – right?? Just kidding!

When you work with DJ Misha – we’ll have a conversation about your preferences in music. We’ll become friends. We’ll talk about songs, artists, genres, epic concerts or festivals you’ve attended. With that knowledge DJ Misha will plan and create a one of a kind set and performance that can only be heard on your wedding day.

DJ Misha plays a variety of modern dance music. That includes many genres under the electronic dance music umbrella – and other genres too. Top dance hits, house music, edm, deep house, lounge, tropical house, progressive and much much more. The best part is – most – if not all – of today’s top music is created electronically with elements of dance music contained within.

It’s your day, let’s make it special

During your wedding day there will be a few distinct parts that will require music, planning and coordination. Let’s break down those moments and talk about what you should be considering for each one in terms of music and sound.

Ceremony

The ceremony is magical. No matter how many times you witness one, you’re bound to get the chills and get emotional. For a perfect execution of the ceremony here are a few things to consider. You’ll want to have soft music playing about 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony, while the guests are arriving and taking their seats.

Once the ceremony is ready to begin, most likely an announcement will be made to request the guests to take their seats.

One piece of music can be selected for the arrival of the groom, family, ring bearer and flower girls. A different song should be played for the arrival of the bride. This is a big moment. So a very special piece of music should be selected to solidify your unique entrance.

You’ll want to have quality microphone for the officiant. It is a good idea to practice with the officiant for the moments when they’ll need to turn the mic to the couple so that they can give their vows.

Lastly, when the ceremony is over you’ll want to select a powerful and exciting song for the couple as they walk off together.

To put off of this together you’ll need a good sound technician to control the volume, make the transitions at the right moments and prevent any issues like microphone feedback or volume being too low for guests to hear.

Cocktail Hour

Following the ceremony, most weddings move to the cocktail hour. It is a time for guests to grab a drink, some appetizers and chit chat, before they move into the dinner venue. For the bride, groom and family it usually the time for photos.

The music during the cocktail hour is important and its also passive. The volume is medium. Music is certainly not the main focus, but it can be used to set the mood and vibe for the coming evening. You could hire a instrumental musician to perform at this time, or you could make a playlist for our DJ that will play in the background.

Most likely towards the end of the hour an announcement will be made to ask people to take their seats at dinner, thou some may flow to the next location naturally.

Dinner, Toasts and Special Dances

During diner the music is once again in the background, the volume is low to medium. The music will be interrupted often by other activities.

First, there will likely be an introduction of the wedding party. Pick one song for the wedding entrance party, and make sure all names are clearly spelled out on your wedding timeline so that they are easy to read and pronounce.

Toasts require special attention. Remember this – no matter how much time you plan for toasts – they will go longer. Plan for it by adding at least 30 minutes more for toasts, trust me on this one.

Since most people giving toasts and probably not public speakers, they’re likely to make common mistakes – like hold the microphone too low for it to pick up their voice. Or bump the microphone with their hand to make sure its working. Or worse – someone may try to be cool guy and drop the mic at the end of their speech.

So it is a good idea to prepare the toast gives at your wedding by sending them a few tips and maybe a short YouTube video as a reminder for best practices when giving speeches. This helps a ton.

Dancing

During the dancing portion of the evening the music moves into the forefront. The volume goes up. There are less or no interruptions to the music. And hopefully people are on the dance floor having a good time.

It’s a good idea to instruct your DJ to not take requests from your guests.

While well meaning guests want to participate and interact with the DJ, there are many reasons why this is not preferred. We won’t get into all those reasons here, but be advised that your DJ is not a jukebox so don’t treat them as such.

Dancing is the time for your DJ to shine. And if you’ve made a good choice – they’ll bring their A game on you’re special evening. Hopefully you’re giving them full autonomy to do their best work – from there the only thing left to do is to have fun, enjoy yourself and dance the night away.
