The Timeline of Your Wedding Day Music

It’s your day, let’s make it special. During your wedding day, there will be a few distinct parts that will require music, planning, and coordination.

Ceremony

The ceremony is magical. No matter how many times you witness one, you’re bound to get the chills and feel emotional. For a perfect execution, here’s what to consider. 

  • Before the Ceremony: Play soft music about 30 minutes before the start, as the guests are arriving and taking their seats. Once the ceremony is ready to begin, an announcement will likely be made for guests to take their seats.
  • Wedding Procession: The arrival of the groom, family, ring bearer, and flower girls can each all walk down the aisle to one song. A different song should be played for the arrival of the bride, highlighting their unique entrance.
  • During the Ceremony: You’ll want to have a quality microphone for the officiant. It’s a good idea to practice with the officiant for the moments when they’ll need to turn the mic to the couple to give their vows.
  • After the Ceremony: Choose a powerful and exciting song for the couple to walk off together after the ceremony.

To put all of this together, you’ll need a good sound technician to control the volume, make the transitions at the right moments, and prevent any issues like microphone feedback or volume being too low for guests to hear.

Cocktail Hour

Following the ceremony, most weddings move to the cocktail hour, where guests can grab a drink, some appetizers, and socialize before they move into the dinner venue. For the bride, groom and family, this is often the time for photos.

  • Toasts: Giving toasts requires special attention. They almost always go longer than expected, so you should plan for an additional 30 minutes. Since most people aren’t public speakers, help prepare them by sending a few tips and maybe a short YouTube video with best practices. This can make a big difference!

Dancing

During the dancing portion of the evening, the music moves into the forefront. The volume goes up; there are fewer interruptions, if any; and people are on the dance floor having a good time.
